In just over 12 months the British public have come so far as a society…or have we?
In just over 365 days the landscape of being a citizen in the United Kingdom has changed drastically and this short thought-provoking article will illustrate how.
On the 16th March 2020 our beloved tinpot Prime Minister [sic] dictator – Boris Johnson sat at his desk with his fingers clasped in front of him and delivered the infamous inaugural “Covid-19 Briefing” like a proverbial stake through the hearts of the British public he uttered the phrase that will probably be engraved on his gravestone; “Stay at home, Protect the NHS, Save lives”, little did we know at the time all Boris was missing was a Panzer uniform and a swastika insignia on his arm.
Johnson’s speech will inevitably end up being used as the make up of GCSE history papers in years to come, as whether you are pro-lockdown or anti-lockdown it is undoubtedly certain that the coming days that awaited us were at the least unprecedented and definitely unwarranted.
This article isn’t going to be a “Damage caused through lockdowns vs lives saved through lockdowns” as that is another article for another time.
This article is however – an illustration of how the last twelve months have reshaped the landscape and social consciousness of the United Kingdom seemingly forever.
We will start in chronological order of events and what better place to start than with reminiscing about the scenes we were presented with after Johnson’s first speech urging us all to stay under house-arrest like we were all being treated as convicted sex offenders.
The mass hysteria in the public manifested and manifested until it reached boiling point…we all had the collective thought of; “Toilet rolls!?” and en-masse we descended on Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose (Waitrose clientele can’t be described as descended but more of a meander with purpose), we spent half of our months salary on stockpiling toilet rolls because we thought this virus was going to be a serious threat to our bowels, it wasn’t and some of the more selfish creatures who live amongst us still have a stockpile of toilet rolls that will last them until the next millennium.
Next we move on to the masks, oh the masks, combined with the new “social distancing” buzzword (that has to be up there with “Customer-centric” as one of the most vomit inducing terms ever coined) we were turned almost overnight into a nation of paranoid schizophrenics, looking over our shoulders to make sure the person behind us in the queue is at the VERY least two metres away…or was it two feet? two yards? Maybe even two kilometres, yeah let’s go with two kilometres. Whatever it was – if a person felt you were standing just a little bit too close to them they would give you the Darth Vader-esque death stare! They won’t say anything to you, they would just stare, then they would go home and furiously type out an aggressive Facebook status along the lines of – “the guy in the queue at Asda that had NO IDEA ABOUT SOCIAL DISTANCING!!! Blah blah blah” As if being one or two feet away from you makes any difference in whether you are going to catch the most contagious virus in the history of mankind right?
Do you think all the social distancing and the mask wearing rules have any significance on the transmission of the virus? Is the virus that smart it knows when you are two metres away from another person?
All these rules were implemented for were to create a divide amongst society, to create a “them vs us” ideology, and to breed animosity amongst friends and family, as where there is animosity there is arguments and hatred and hatred and animosity are the perfect breeding ground for confusion, a confused mind is an easily brainwashed and corrupted mind. “Covid-19” isn’t the virus we should be worried about…the virus is the thoughts, the arguments, the hatred, the loneliness, the suicides, the elderly family abandoned in care homes, the cancer patients not receiving treatment and all the rest of it that our despot “government” have inflicted with these fascist lockdowns.
This is how drastically our world has changed in under twelve short months. The lockdowns will return in the autumn (or sooner) and that isn’t a prediction, that is a spoiler.
When we think of “vaccine passports” – the thought was once just a wild conspiracy theory from those that the narrow minded sheep would tarnish as “tin foil hat wearers” but like all conspiracy theories…it has come true and we now await the bleak inevitability of having to be vaccinated to reclaim some of our freedoms that were needlessly pillaged from us. How far can they take this? As far as they want if the last year is anything to go off, as long as the subservient sheep keep on following the rules, wearing their masks and adhering to the overall fascist and outright cruel rules imposed by Johnson, Hancock, Witty and co. they will keep on stripping us of our human rights and freedoms. The only way I (and many likeminded people) can see a way out of this is through an uprising.
Just remember the phrase – “Three weeks to flatten the curve” the next time you are stockpiling toilet paper ready for the next lockdown whilst you give someone a menacing glare from behind your paper mask.
Those three weeks have been an awfully long time.
